Female suicide bombers kills more than 40 in Maiduguri

On Tuesday, two teen female suicide bombers killed more than 40 people in a crowded market in Nigeria’s northeastern city of Maiduguri.

The teenage girls entered the busy marketplace. Their vests of explosives were hidden by their full hijabs.

 

Some witnesses told that near the scene a woman had entered the roadside trading area behind the city’s main market before blowing herself up. And that whenrescuers rushed in to help victims, the second girl screamed and detonated herself.

The witness Sani Adamu added:"While the people were trying to help the injured, the second bomb blasted. I saw lots of bodies."                                                                                                                                                                       

The first bomber killed about three women, said Abba Aji Kalli, the coordinator of a government-backed vigilante group in Borno State.                                                                                 

“I am right here at the scene and I have before me 11 corpses … many have been taken away by relatives, while others are taken to the State specialists’ hospital.”Kalli also explained.

The police still did not say anything about the attack.                                                                           A nurse at Maiduguri General Hospital said that 42 bodies had been received from the twin blasts. In the Maiduguri University teaching hospital, a staff member said two of a dozen wounded brought there for treatment had so far died.

No group has claimed the attack for the moment but violent Islamist group Boko Haram is suspected.

In its campaign of violence, Boko Haram has begun using women who can cover the explosives with their hijabs and the recruits appear to have gotten younger.

The group was based in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, after its formation in 2002. But it has since been driven out of the city by the military and vigilante groups. The Islamist group now controls a large number of towns and villages in Borno amid fears that it launches an assault to capture Maiduguri.                                                                                                             

So far, the government troops have been unable to halt the bloodshed in Maiduguri and surrounding areas.

Des femmes kamikazes tuent plus de 40 personnes à Maiduguri

Mardi, deux adolescentes kamikazes ont tué plus de 40 personnes sur un marché à Maiduguri, dans le nord-est du Nigéria.

Les adolescentes sont arrivées dans le marché animé avec des ceintures d’explosifs cachées par leur voile intégral.

Des témoins ont dit que près du lieu de l’explosion une femme est arrivée dans les rues adjacentes derrière le marché principal de la ville avant de se faire exploser. Untémoin Sani Adamu a ajouté : « Pendant que les gens essayaient d’aider les blessés, la deuxième bombe a explosé. J’ai vu de nombreux corps.».

La première kamikaze a tué environ trois femmes, a dit Abba Aji Kalli, le coordinateur d’un groupe d’auto-défense soutenu par le gouvernement dans l’Etat de Borno.

« Je suis là et j’ai devant moi 11 cadavres… beaucoup ont été repris par des proches, et d’autres sont emmenés à l’hôpital de l’Etat.» a expliqué aussi Kalli.

La police n’a encore fait aucun commentaire sur cet attentat.                                                                                   Une infirmière de l’hôpital général de Maiduguri, a raconté que 42 morts ont été recensés après les deux explosions. Au CHUde la ville, un membre du personnel a dit que deux blessés parmi une dizaine amenés là pour traitement étaient déjà morts.

Aucun groupe n’a revendiqué l’attentat pour le moment, mais le groupe islamiste Boko Haram est soupçonné.

Dans sa campagne de violence, Boko Haram a commencé à utiliser des femmes qui peuvent cachés les explosifs sous leur voiles, et les recrues semblent être plus jeunes.                                Le groupe était basé à Maiduguri, la capitale de l’Etat Borno, après leur formation en 2002. Mais il a été chassé de la ville par les militaires et les milices. Le groupe islamiste contrôle maintenant un grand nombre de villes et villages à Borno. La crainte est qu’il lance un assaut pour prendre Maiduguri. Jusqu’à présent, les troupes gouvernementales ont été incapables de mettre un terme l’effusion de sang à Maiduguri et dans les environs.
