The woman who fought back

The high court of Sokoto state has been compelled to dismiss the complaint of Zainab Isa Mayana, forced by her father to marry Senator Sahabi Ya'u in one of the northern states of the country where islam is dominant. The court can't deal with a matrimonial islamic case.

Fortunately for the young woman, most Muslims in northern Nigeria are against forced marriages and they supported her for this case. They find her "courageous" to fight against her father and the senator, for her rights as woman.

Finally she will bring the case to the islamic court which is the most competent to conduct the trial. As her lawyer said, Zainab Isa Mayana will not give up until she can be married with the man of her choice and enjoy her freedom.

Le combat d'une femme

Le tribunal de grande instance de l'état de Sokoto s'est vu obligé de rejeter la plainte de Zainab Isa Mayana, forcée par son père au mariage avec le sénateur Sahabi Ya'u dans le nord du pays sous régime islamique. En effet, cette instance ne peut juger d'une affaire matrimoniale islamique.

Cependant, un nombre important des musulmans du nord opposés au mariage forcé ont pris le parti de la jeune femme. Ils trouvent courageux de sa part de se battre contre son père et le sénateur pour ses droits en tant que femme.

Finalement elle a décidé de porter l'affaire devant un tribunal islamique, seul compétent pour instruire le procès. Comme le dit son avocat, Zainab Isa Mayana va continuer à se battre pour pouvoir se marier avec l'homme de son choix, ainsi que pour sa liberté.
