Barack Obamania

Sunday 16 November

Barack Obama was elected president of the United States on the 4th of November 2008.
He is the first “black and white “president in all the History of America. World leaders have applauded the election of Senator Barack Obama saying it was gratifying that the country could overcome centuries of racial strife and elect him.
This victory is an example for African leaders. President Umaru Yar’Adua said that Nigeria had lessons to learn from Obama’s election. "The election of Barack Obama ... has finally broken the greatest barrier of prejudice in human history. I believe for us, we have a lesson to draw from this historic event,"
Mr Yar'Adua urged Nigerians to conduct themselves as citizens of Nigeria, not as members of one tribe or region, saying the event in the US "created a totally and completely new era".
In the letter written to Barack Obama, the Nigerian president speaks about the relationship between the United States and Nigeria: “While wishing you and your team a successful transition, I look forward to even more robust bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States of America, and more productive partnership between Africa and the United States of America in the quest for a more stable, secure, just and equitable world.”
Barack Obama’s election is also an example of victory without conspiracy, rigging or fraud. The 44th president of the United States is becoming a hope for Africans. He shows the equality between black and white and the success of a simple man. President of Youth Movement for Democracy in Nigeria, Prince Echifulachi Nna, said the victory of Obama was one of the best things to happen to the world, particularly Africa.
