On April 1st, suspected Boko Haram militants attacked Maidaguri, the big city of Borno, northeast of the country. Gunmen, mortars, suicide bombers were used to attack a military base and two villages: Bale Shuware and Alikaranti. More than 86 villagers were wounded when they tried to escape and around 18 people were killed.
The Nigerian soldiers neutralized some suicide bombers, killed six insurgents and repelled the militants who were on their way to attacking the military base. Because they couldn’t reach their first target, they decided to attack the two villages, according to Col Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigeria army spokesman.
The group has killed more than 20,000 people it’s the deadliest attack since the government announced they are holding talks with the Islamist militants.

Le 1er avril, des militants soupçonnés d’appartenir au groupe islamiste Boko Haram ont attaqué la grande ville de Maiduguri dans l’état du Borno, au nord-est du pays.
Des hommes armés, des mortiers et des kamikazes ont attaqué une base militaire et 2 villages : Bale Shuware et Alikaranti. Plus de 86 villageois ont été blessés alors qu’ils tentaient de s’enfuir et 18 personnes ont été tuées dont un soldat.
Les militaires ont neutralisé plusieurs kamikazes, tué six rebelles et repoussé les militants qui tentaient d’attaquer leur base. N’ayant pas pu atteindre leur cible, ils ont alors attaqué les villages selon le porte-parole de l’armée, le Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu.
Depuis 2009, le groupe a tué plus de 20.000 personnes et c’est pourquoi le gouvernement est en pourparlers avec les militants islamistes. C’est l’attaque la plus meurtrière depuis le début officiel des négociations.
