On
March 7, 2018, the BBC announced that the UK wanted to pay for a part
of a Nigerian prison.
The
Kiri Kiri prison in Lagos is the largest jail in the country. It was
established in 1990 with a capacity of 956 prisoners, but currently
accommodates
more than 1600 inmates;
today it can host around 5000 prisoners.
Among
those prisoners, some are British, that’s why the UK announced that
it is going to pay some £700,000 for 112 beds for its
nationals.
It wants to open a new wing for them.
In
2016, 320 Nigerians were imprisoned in the UK; with this investment,
the UK wants to facilitate
the transfer of criminals from British jails. Moreover,
the two Governments think that it will improve Kiri Kiri’s security
and capacity.

dans une prison nigériane.
La
prison de Kiri Kiri située à Lagos est la plus grande prison du
pays.
En
1990, sa capacité officielle était de 956 prisonniers mais elle
comptait déjà
plus
de 1600 prisonniers ; aujourd’hui, elle compte environ 5000
détenus.
Parmi
ces prisonniers, certains sont britanniques, c’est pour cela que
l’Angleterre a annoncé vouloir
investir autour de 700.000£ pour 112 lits afin d’accueillir ses
ressortissants. Elle souhaite ouvrir une nouvelle aile qui leur
serait destinée.
En
2016, 320 Nigérians

en Angleterre. Avec cet investissement, l’Angleterre veut faciliter
le transfert de prisonniers.
De
plus, les deux gouvernements pensent que cette action améliorera la
sécurité dans et bien sûr la capacité d’accueil de la prison.
