Death of a strongman
Wednesday morning Olusola Saraki died at his residence in Lagos; he was 79 years old.
This popular politician had played a capital role in Nigeria, particularly in Kwara where he controlled the state politics for a long time.
He was a patriot and his life was dedicated to the development of Nigeria and its inhabitants.
During the second Republic, he was the Leader of the Senate for several years. Later, he was displaced as kingmaker of the state by his son, Bukola Sakari, after the 2011 elections.
Senator Saraki announced his father’s death and declared that the body was to be moved to Llorin, the capital of Kwara state to be buried in the afternoon in accordance with Islamic rites.
To honour the former strongman, the state government declared three days of mourning.

Ce mercredi matin, Olusola Saraki, est mort dans sa résidence au Lagos ; il avait 79 ans.
Cet homme politique populaire a joué un rôle important au Nigéria et plus particulièrement dans l’état de Kwara, dont il a influencé la politique pendant de longues années.
C’était un grand patriote et toute sa vie, il s’est intéressé au développement du Nigéria et de son peuple.
Pendant la deuxième République, il futle leadeur du sénat nigérian durant de nombreuses années. Il fut remplacé par son fils Bukola Saraki comme « faiseur de roi » après les élections de 2011.
Le sénateur Saraki a déclaré que le corps de son père avait été déplacé à Llorin, la capitale de l’état de Kwara et qu’il serait enterré l’après midi selon le rite musulman.
Pour rendre honneur à ce père de la nation, le gouvernement nigérien a déclaré trois jours de deuil national.
