Boko Haram’s Christmas attack on Pemi:

On 24 December, Boko Haram fighters killed 11 persons, burned ten houses and looted medical supplies in a hospital before burning it. They burned the church of the main Christian village, Pemi, located in the North of the country. They also kidnapped a priest. Some citizens ran away to the bush and some of them are still missing.

Security forces had warned the population that an attack may occur.

Boko Haram focus their attack on the northern part of Nigeria where they try to overthrow the government to create an Islamic state.

Boko Haram has killed 36,000 people so far and is responsible for the displacement of 2 million people. Because of this insecurity, northern communities have resorted to arming vigilantes and militia groups in order to protect the population. Those organizations work alongside the army.

Moreover, the northern population don’t understand why President Muhamadu Buhari does not keep its promises and undertake action against Boko Haram.

 

Boko Haram attaque à Noël

Le 24 décembre, des hommes armés de Boko Haram ont attaqué le village de Pemi situé au nord du Nigeria. Les djihadistes ont brûlé dix maisons, volé du matériel médical d’un hôpital avant de le brûler ainsi que l’église du village. Onze personnes ont été tuées dans l’attaque. Certains habitants du village ont fui dans la brousse et certains parmi eux sont toujours portés disparus.

Boko Haram concentre ses attaques sur le nord du Nigeria car c’est là qu'ils essayent de créer un état islamique. La sécurité publique avait prévenu la population qu’une attaque pouvait avoir lieu. Le drame n’a pourtant pas été évité.

Le bilan des agissements de Boko Haram s’élève à 36000 personnes tuées et à 2 millions de personnes déplacées. En raison de ce climat d’insécurité, les communautés du nord du pays ont recours à des groupes d’autodéfense et à des milices armées dans le but de protéger la population.

Les populations du nord ne comprennent pas pourquoi le président Muhamadi Buhari ne tient pas ses promesses de lutte contre Boko Haram et n’entreprend rien pour les stopper.
