Haruna Yahaya, the first prisoner of the Chibok girls kidnapping

On February 12, Haruna Yahaya was judged in a military court in Kainji, in the West of the country. He is 35 years old, has a paralysed arm, a deformed leg and was part of the Boko Haram group. He participated in the kidnapping of the 276 girls in Chibok in 2014. He is the first militant of this kidnapping to go to jail. He will be imprisoned 15 years.
To make the sentence lighter, he said to the court that he was forced to participate to the activities of the group but the judges, who have known a lot of similar cases, didn’t accept the excuse. During this week and the last one, 700 suspected militants are to appear before the judges and 20 of them have been found guilty so far.

Le 12 février, Haruna Yahaya a été jugé devant un tribunal dans une base militaire à Kainji, à l’ouest du pays. Cet homme a 35 ans, a un bras paralysé, une jambe déformée et est membre du groupe Boko Haram. Il a participé à l’enlèvement des 276 filles à Chibok en 2014. Il est le premier homme ayant participé à cet enlèvement de masse à être emprisonné et il le sera pour 15 ans.
Afin que la peine soit moins lourde, il a dit à la cour qu’il avait été forcé à participer aux activités du groupe islamiste. Mais les juges, qui ont connu des nombreuses affaires pareilles à la sienne, n’ont pas accepté son excuse. Pendant cette semaine et la semaine dernière, 700 présumés militants doivent comparaître devant les juges, 20 d’entre eux ont déjà été reconnus coupables.

Four foreigners kidnapped ans released in Kaduna

Wednesday 17 January, 2018, four foreigners were kidnapped in the state of Kaduna. The four foreigners were going to the city of Abuja with a police escort of two. On the way, criminals ambushed them and kidnapped the foreigners. They were armed and They opened fire on law enforcement personnel.

During the shooting, the two policemen died. The four abducted were two Canadians and two Americans.

After three days of sequestration, the captives were freed during a joint military and police rescue operation on Saturday 20 January. All the captives are now sound and safe. Police doesn’t know if the abductors are affiliated to a criminal group. They kidnapped the foreigners for a ransom but the police chief declared that no ransom was paid to the criminals. Kidnapping for ransom is another problem of Nigeria adding to the plague of Boko-Hara. Frequently high-profile people and their families are targeted by kidnappers for ransom.



QUATRE ÉTRANGERS ENLEVÉS À KADUNA



Mercredi 17 Janvier 2018, quatre étrangers ont été kidnappés au Nigéria, dans l’état de Kaduna. Ils étaient en route pour Abuja escortés par deux policiers.

En chemin, ils ont été pris dans une embuscade et kidnappés.

Les assaillants étaient armés et ont ouvert le feu sur les forces de l’ordre. Durant la fusillade, les deux policiers sont morts.

Les kidnappés, deux Canadiens et deux Américains ont été libérés après 3 jours de séquestration, après une opération commune de l’armée et de la police le samedi 20 janvier. Tous les otages sont sains et saufs.

La police ignore si les ravisseurs sont affiliés à un groupe criminel, mais ils cherchaient à obtenir une rançon. Le chef de la police a déclaré qu’aucune rançon n’a été payée.

Les enlèvements pour obtenir une rançon sont un des problèmes du Nigéria qui s’ajoute au fléau Boko-Haram. Il est assez fréquent que des personnalités et leurs proches soient la cible de ces enlèvements.

Suicide bombing in mubi kills at least 50 people

On 21th November 2017, a suicide attack killed at least 50 people in a mosque in Mubi, in the state of Adamawa.

The kamikaze was an adolescent who activated his explosive devices inside the mosque during the morning prayer. The explosion caused 50 deaths.

No one know why this adolescent blew himself up. Boko Haram has not claimed this terrorist attack but the pattern, the location of the attack and the targets bear the mark of the Islamic group.

Last December, a similar attack in the town made at least 45 deaths and was claimed by Boko Haram.

Some 20,000 people have been killed in Boko Haram's eight-year insurgency.



UN ATTENTAT À LA BOMBE À MUBI A CAUSÉ LA MORT D’AU MOINS 50 PERSONNES



Mardi 21 novembre, un attentat-suicide a causé la mort d’au moins 50 personnes dans une mosquée de la ville de Mubi, située dans l’état d’Adamawa.

Le kamikaze était un adolescent qui a actionné sa charge explosive à l’intérieur de la mosquée durant la prière matinale.

L’explosion a tué près de 50 personnes. On ne sait pas pourquoi cette attaque a eu lieu mais le mode opératoire, le lieu et la cible de l’attaque font de Boko Haram un sérieux suspect.

En décembre dernier, une attaque similaire avait tué près de 45 personnes.

Près de 20.000 personnes sont mortes dans des attaques de ce groupe depuis huit ans.
