Local gin causes deaths
In the southern state of Rivers people usually drink a local gin called “ogogoro”. But Sunday 25 October, the Government announced that out of 80 people that drank contaminated alcohol, 70 died and 2 became blind.
The problem is that the beverage is sometimes contaminated by methanol. The Rivers Ministry of Health startedwarning the population about the drink and the Federal government announced that they had banned the gin, which means that the police are now arresting all those who continue manufacturing the drink.

Le problème de l’ogogoro est qu’il est parfois mélangé à du méthanol. Le ministère de la santé de Rivers a lancé une campagne de prévention auprès de la population au sujet de l’ogogoro et le gouvernement fédéral a annoncé son interdiction et la police a commencé à arrêter des fabricants locaux.
