Lagos takes center stage
It seems like Nigeria is a breeding ground of gifted musicians, even if people don't necessarily know it. Indeed many are the ones who ignore that Keziah Jone was born in Lagos. Yet this musician inspired by Jimi Hendrix and Prince, is the composer of the world hit Rhythm is Love. He has been back in Lagos since 2011 and claims that the town is about to step into the limelight with a welter of new Nigerians talents.
A young woman who grew up in Lagos is making a name for herself in the soul music. Asa, influenced by myths such as Bob Marley or Aretha Franklin, has already released three albums. At 30 years old she was awarded the Constantin Prize for her album Asa.
Lagos is also inspiring weirder projects, like Emaka Ogboh’s one. He focused on the typical sound of the town. Once he had recorded them, he made a montage which is now broadcast in towns all around the world.
Opinion :
I think that the fact that Keziah Jones as returned to Nigeria shows that the country is moving on in the direction of stability, which is also promoting cultural development.

Le Nigéria est aujourd’hui un vivier de talents musicaux, bien que le grand public n'en ait pas forcément conscience. Ainsi, peu de gens savent que Keziah Jones est né à Lagos. Ce musicien inspiré par Jimi Hendrix ou Prince, est pourtant l'auteur du single au succès planétaire Rhythm is Love. Cela fait deux ans qu'il est de retour dans sa ville natale, et il affirme aujourd'hui que Lagos s'apprête à faire sortir de l'ombre de nouveaux talents nigérians.
Une jeune guitariste ayant grandi à Lagos est effectivement en train de se faire un nom dans le monde de la soul. Asa, dont les sources d'inspiration relèvent également de la légende (Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin), a déjà sorti trois albums. À seulement 30 ans, elle recevait le prix Constantin, qui récompensait son album Asa.
Mais Lagos est également à l'origine de projets plus loufoques, tels que celui de Emeka Ogboh. Il s'est intéressé aux sons caractéristiques de la ville. Après les avoir enregistrés, il en a fait un montage qui passe actuellement dans les lieux publics de grandes villes du monde entier.
Opinion :
Je pense que le fait que Keziah Jones soit retourné vivre au Nigéria montre que le pays évolue vers plus de stabilité, ce qui favorise également un développement culturel.
