Goodluck Jonathan breathes through Peoples Democratic Party's primaries
Nigeria's acting president, Goodluck Jonathan, was elected for the first time, on Friday 14th January 2011, at 6am, by Prof Tunde Adenira, as the Peoples Democratic Party's candidate for the next presidential election. He won primaries with 2 736 votes to 805 for Mr Abubakar and 1 for Mrs Jibril, of a total of cast 3 542 votes and 61 voided.
Mr Goodluck's election was received with much surprise. Indeed, the PDP expected a northerner candidate. According to party's tradition, candidates from north and south states, alternate successively after two terms. Former president, Umaru Yar'Adua, originating from the north had begun the first term, when he was replaced after his death by his vice-president, Mr Jonathan. Therefore, logically, even with the interruption of the first term, Mr Abubakar, a northerner, should have been elected for the second term.
Moreover Mr Jonathan scored well above his opponent in several northern states such as Jigawa with 100 to 17, or Katsina 147 to 11, even in Mr Abukara's state, Adamawa, where he received 76 to 31.
It only remains to Goodluck Jonathan, to beat his main opponent, former anti-corruption campaigner Nuhu Ribadu,on 6 April the next, in order to become the next elected president.
In my opinion :
Since the end of military rule, in 1999. The PDP has won every election. The party scored 69,82 % votes in the 2007 presidential elections. However, victories were not always fair, and they have often been followed by violence. Even with these last two arguments I'm totally convinced that Mr Jonathan will be Nigeria’s next president.

L'actuel président par intérim du Nigeria, M. Goodluck Jonathan, a été élu pour la première fois le vendredi 14 janvier dernier, à 6 heures, par Prof Tunde Adenira, candidat du Parti Démocratique Populaire à la présidentielle de 2011. Il a gagné les primaires avec 2 736 voix contre 805 pour M. Abubakar et 1 pour Mme Jibril, sur un total de 3 542 voix exprimées et 61 votes blancs.
L'élection de M. Jonathan est inattendue. En effet, le PDP s'attendait à un candidat nordiste. Selon les traditions du parti, les candidats originaires des états du nord et du sud se succèdent après deux mandats. L'ex-président, Umaru Yar'Adua, originaire du nord avait commencé le premier mandat lorsqu'il a été remplacé après sa mort par son vice-président, M. Jonathan. C'est pourquoi normalement M. Abubakar, un nordiste, aurait du être élu, afin d'effectuer le second mandat.
Par ailleurs M. Jonathan a obtenu des résultats nettement supérieurs à son adversaire dans plusieurs régions du nord tels qu'au Jigawa avec 100 voix contre 17, ou au Katsina avec 147 voix contre 11, même dans l'état de M. Abubakar, l'Adamawa, il a obtenu 71 % des voix.
Il ne reste plus à Goodluck Jonathan qu'a battre son principal adversaire, l'ex-militant anti-corruption, Nuhu Ribadu, le 6 avril prochain, afin de devenir le futur président élu du Nigeria.
A mon avis :
Depuis la fin du régime militaire, en 1999. Le PDP a gagné toutes les élections, le parti avait obtenu 69,82% des voix lors des dernières élections, en 2007. Cependant, les victoires n'étaient pas toujours très justes, et elles étaient souvent suivies de violences. Mais même avec ces deux derniers arguments je miserai sur l'élection de M. Jonathan au fauteuil présidentiel .
