Nigeria braces for virus

Sub-Saharan Africa reported its first case of coronavirus this February 28. The man infected is a young Italian businessman from Milan.
The Nigerian government declared that the virus can be terrible for Africa because of the poor health system of Africa. The Italian was moved to Lagos in a hospital specially equipped to receive Coronavirus infected patients.
The local population is deeply concerned and panic buying of gel and masks is expected.

Ce 28 février, le Nigeria a déclaré son premier cas de coronavirus qui est aussi le premier en Afrique subsaharienne.
La personne infectée est un entrepreneur italien de Milan.
Des responsables de la santé ont déclaré que le coronavirus pourrait être dévastateur pour l’Afrique, en raison du système de santé très faible.
Le jeune Italien a été renvoyé à Lagos, où il est soigné dans un hôpital qui a été réservé au traitement des patients contaminés par le coronavirus.
La population locale est très inquiète et se rue sur le gel hydroalcoolique et les masques.
« J’ai peur » a déclaré Karo Otitifore un enseignant de la banlieue de Lagos où a été hospitalisé le malade.

Nigeria excluded by US travel ban

On January 31, Donald Trump, President of the United States, added to the list of immigration restrictions started in 2017, Nigeria and 5 other countries. He wants to bar more foreign nationals from entry into the US.
The American government declares that those 6 countries, “for a variety of different reasons”, do not meet the minimum-security requirements defined by the United States.
Those countries all have a large Muslim majority.
According to the new rules, from February 21 Nigerians will no longer be able to obtain visas to settle in the United States: no permanent residency anymore. However, they can still obtain business and tourist visas.
The President of Nigeria declares that he wants to maintain the "productive relationship" with the United States, and is willing to lead a committee to "study and address" the new visa requirements.
So, Nigeria will work to fix security lapses that led to a US curb on immigration from the country.
The US Security department would help the banned countries by working on bolstering their security requirements.

Le 31 janvier le Président Donald Trump a limité l’accès aux Etats-Unis de six nouveaux pays dont le Nigeria. La liste des pays dont l’immigration est limitée, initiée en 2017, vise principalement des pays à majorité musulmane.
Les Etats-Unis estiment que ces pays ne répondent pas à ce jour aux conditions minimales de sécurité qu’ils exigent.
Les Nigérians ne seront donc plus en mesure, dès le 21 février 2020, d’obtenir des visas d’installation sur le territoire américain. Ils pourront cependant s’y rendre encore pour des raisons d’affaires ou de tourisme.
Le Président du Nigeria déclare qu’il veut maintenir des « relations productives » avec les Etats-Unis et qu’il va travailler à satisfaire aux exigences américaines afin de lever cette interdiction.
Le département de la sécurité américaine, quant à lui, serait susceptible d’aider tous les pays concernés à renforcer leur sécurité.
